NSW State Wide Pairs
July 31 - August 6
In 2017 the NSW State Wide Pairs will run for one session only during the first week in August.
Hands are provided together with a booklet, which features brief commentary on each deal for perusal at the completion of the session. The event is then scored across all participating clubs and overall winners determined.
Cash prizes are presented, as well as gift vouchers from the Bridge Shop and certificates for the winners in each club. Prizes are also awarded in the restricted divisions of Under 25, Under 50 and Under 100 masterpoints (as at 30th June 2017).

All participating clubs will receive detailed instructions by email in mid-June. These will explain how to access the dealing files and hand records and how to submit your results to be scored.
2017 Results
There were 442 pairs competing in 24 different clubs, an increase of 30 pairs and 1 club from 2016. Note that when the event is matchpointed across the state, percentages and order of rank can vary quite considerably from those obtained when matchpointing involves only those players within the club. The smaller the club session, the greater this effect.

Pairs can obtain a full breakdown of their results by accessing the scoring website nationwidepairs.com.au/nswbapairs.html, following the links to Overall Results and then clicking on their pair names. These raw results include casual pairs and hence final positions may not be correct. Note that the red masterpoint awards shown are all incorrect.
This year's clear winners were Judy Burton and Jan Chivers from Cromer Bridge Club with a score of 70.45 %. Congratulations on a great effort.
Second were Annemarie Athea and Noel Athea from Goulburn who scored 68.52 %, just 0.006% ahead of Jeff Carberry* and Robert Kinloch from IBA who came third.
Rachel Rich and Ian Price (Armidale) finished fourth with Joan Russell and Gladys Donovan (Southside) fifth.
*Jeff Carberry did not gain any advantage by helping to run the event. However, to allay any potential concerns that other contestants may have, he has asked for his partnership to be removed from the list of prize recipients. Relevant prizes will devolve to lower placed pairs.
