Country Final
The State Open Teams Country Final was held at the Tamworth Bridge
Club on Saturday-Sunday 28-29 October.
The Central Coast Bridge Club
was represented by Colin and Wendy Mitchell, Lorraine Harkness and
Jack Lindsay. The team got off to a good start on Saturday by beating
the Tamworth team of Sharon and Greg Mayo, Michael Johnson and David
Cohen and continued their good form by winning the remaining five
matches on the day.
The team did not perform so well on Sunday (perhaps because they went
to the fiftieth birthday party of Michael Johnson on Saturday evening!),
drawing one match and narrowly losing two matches. However the results
in other matches were 'benevolent' and the team won with 164 VPs from a
possible 225.
The Ballina team of Helen and Pater Tootell, John Paynter and Judy
Forsyth came second with 157 VPs. The Tamworth team and another Ballina
team (Lyn Arnett, Mike Gilfoyle, Paul Cruikshank and Winston Guymer)
came equal third with 155 VPs.
The Central Coast team will be presented with the
Betty Hill Perpetual Trophy and will represent the country in the
final series of the State Open Teams at the NSWBA on December 8-10.
*The Betty Hill Perpetual Trophy has
been established in recognition of Betty Hill's generosity to the bridge
players of New South Wales - Regional areas.
