All the 2019 State Championships are now over. It's wonderful to be cheered on, but it's also fun to cheer for others. Did you follow the Final of the State Open Teams, bid by bid and card by card, on BBO?
The John Arkinstall State Open Teams runs every year. Beginning in March with qualifying events held in clubs around the state, it culminates in a 10 table Final held at the NSWBA in November. Country teams progress via Regional and Zonal Finals, with six teams (two from each Zone) proceeding to the State Final. There they are joined by four Metropolitan teams, two from the NSWBA Monday night event and two from the Metropolitan Teams Final.
The 2019 John Arkinstall State Open Teams Championship Final was held on 15-17 November. Congratulations to the winners: Dave Wiltshire, Sophie Ashton, Shane Harrison, Jessica Brake, Andrew Peake and Susan Humphries. The Country Teams was won by Sue McMahon, Ken McMahon, John McMahon, Charles McMahon and Georgina McMahon. Photos and full results from the above link.

There are State events specially designed for different levels of players. The Under Hundred Masterpoints Pairs Championship is restricted to players with less than 100 masterpoints as at 1 September each year. This event offers clubs the opportunity to run UHMP sessions during September & October and/or a Final. This year’s Final was held from 25 November to 1 December at twelve different venues, enabling players to participate in a state event at their local club. It was matchpointed state-wide and then handicapped. The winners (on handicap) were Jane Ryan and Sarah Edelman. Congratulations also go to Jo Morgan and Gale Spalvins who had the top raw score and won the ABF grant to compete in the Restricted Butler Pairs at the Adelaide ANC in 2020. We wish them good luck! Next year’s UHMP Finals will be held in the week November 23-29, 2020.
